FAQ

How many years of teaching experience do you have?As a senior in high school, I had two young students who were referred to me by the Jordan Elbridge Band Director. In college, I was the piano tutor for beginners to intermediates. For two years after college, my only job was teaching - I had a total of 28 students over those two years.

Do you have your own music studio where lessons can take place?Unfortunately, I do not have my own space - yet! This is one of my goals for the future.
-

I'm an adult - can I sign up for lessons too?Yes! I welcome students from ages 4 to 94.

What musical styles and levels of experience can you teach?Due to my background, my primary instrument is piano. I specialize in classical music but I can teach all styles - pop, Broadway, blues, songwriting, and more. I am comfortable teaching anywhere from very beginners to late intermediate or early advanced. On guitar and ukulele, I am comfortable teaching beginners. I can also vocal coach as an addition to any of these instruments.

Why do you recommend a 45 minute lesson for 10 year olds?In my experience, 30 minute lessons are far too short for the average 10 year old. At around this age, students begin to dive into bigger topics under the "umbrella" of music - theory, songwriting, chords, lesson books, performance prep, sight-reading, and so much more. Touching on all of these subjects in one lesson is so beneficial, but we can't do it all in 30 minutes. On the flip side, 60 minutes are way too long for a 10 year old. 45 minutes is the perfect length. Each lesson is tailored to each student, so if it is determined that it wouldn't be best for a student to increase their time, it can be discussed and accommodated.

Do you offer free lessons or discounts?Yes! There are two ways to earn free lessons. First, by signing up for your first lesson, you automatically will receive your first "meet-and-greet" lesson free. Second, by referring a friend for lessons, you will also earn a free lesson (friend must take more than the first "meet-and-greet" lesson for you to be eligible). Sibling discounts are built into the prices of the lessons. The longer the length of time that I am teaching, the better the deal. There is also another way to save 10% on the cost of your lessons. By paying month to month, you reserve your spot in my schedule for the month and you receive a 10% off for the entire month's worth of lessons.

Why is music so important? The benefits are endless! Kids who learn music are using small and large muscle groups at the same time, developing dexterity and fine-motor skills, using their eyes to read music, using their ears to listen to the music they are creating, and so much more. There are tangible benefits to learning music as well, such as better overall testing scores on standardized exams than non-musical peers.
